History of Snezhnogorsk is connected
with Ship Repairing Yard NERPA. To 1971 number of the inhabitants
of shiprepairmen settlement "Vueshniy" made 600 men. From
1972 the workers of factory and buildes began to be occupied in
the comfortable apartment houses, and in 1973 urban council of national
deputies is established. To 1980 all inhabitants of city began to
be occupied from baraks in comfortable flats, in Oktober of the
same year to settlement the status of city was given by decree of
Presidium of the Supreme body of RSFSR. In Desember elections to
urban council of the national deputies are carried out and the executive
committee of urban council is formed. Today it is one of beautiful
towns of Murmansk region. In process of escalating capacities of
SRY Nerpa, number of engineers and workers was increased. To 01.01.1978
the number of workers of SRY Nerpa composed 2 thousand and town's
inhabitants 7,5 thousand. Particularity of SRY Nerpa manufacturing
conditioned giving to city, Yard and demesne of status of Closed
Administrative - Territorial Formation. Now town Snezhnogorsk has
the developed social infrastructure. to provide necessary service
for the inhabitants and visitors the of the town there are Culture
Palace, hotel, sports complex, network of shops and urban market,
10 kindergartens, 3 high schools and hospital complex, which is
one of the largest and well-equipped ones in Murmansk region.
